Terms & Conditions

The terms that apply when you book a moving service with Big Bull Movers Limited.

1. About These Terms

These Terms and Conditions apply to every booking made with Big Bull Movers Ltd, including work carried out under our commercial division, Big Bull Commercial. They cover home moves, office and warehouse relocations, machinery and equipment moving, and related services such as packing and rubbish removal.

By confirming a booking, requesting a callout, or accepting a quote, you agree to these Terms. If you are booking on behalf of a business, you confirm you have the authority to accept these Terms for that business.

Please read this page alongside your written quote. Where the two documents differ, your signed quote or booking confirmation takes priority for that job.

2. Quotes and Pricing

Prices we give before a job starts are estimates. An estimate is based on the information you give us about the size of the move, access, the number and type of items, and any special handling needed.

A firm price is confirmed once we have assessed the job, either in person, by video call, or through photos and a detailed inventory you provide. Once confirmed, that price is fixed for the scope of work agreed, and we will not add charges outside that scope without telling you first.

The following can change an estimate once we see the actual job:

  • Extra items, boxes, or furniture not listed at the time of quoting
  • Restricted access, such as stairs, long carry distances, or no parking near the entrance
  • Additional packing materials or labour requested on the day
  • Waiting time caused by the customer, building management, or a third party
  • A change of pickup or delivery address after the quote was issued

If extra costs come up on the day, our crew will let you know before the work continues wherever possible.

3. Booking, Payment, and Cancellation

3.1 Booking

A booking is confirmed once you accept a quote and, where requested, pay any deposit shown on your booking confirmation. Confirmed time slots are allocated on a first-accepted basis.

3.2 Payment

Payment is due on completion of the job unless we have agreed to a different arrangement with you in writing, such as a commercial account or staged payments on a larger project. We accept card and bank transfer; a processing fee may apply to card payments and will be shown before you pay.

3.3 Cancellation and Rescheduling

You can cancel or reschedule a booking by contacting us directly. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, or crew and vehicles already dispatched, may incur a callout or cancellation charge. Any such charge will be set out in your booking confirmation.

4. Your Responsibilities Before the Move

To keep your move on schedule, please:

  • Give us an accurate list of items and any access restrictions when requesting your quote
  • Have items packed and ready unless you have booked our packing service
  • Disconnect and prepare appliances (for example, defrosting fridges and freezers) unless disconnection has been booked as part of the service
  • Tell us about any item that cannot safely be lifted or carried by two people, so we can plan the right equipment or crew
  • Arrange parking or building access, including lift bookings for apartments and office towers, ahead of the move date

If the job cannot proceed as planned because of missing information, blocked access, or items not being ready, waiting time and any return visit will be charged at our standard rates.

5. Items We Cannot Move

For safety and legal reasons, the following items are excluded from our moving service:

  • Pets and live animals
  • Flammable, explosive, or hazardous materials, including gas cylinders and fuel
  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Perishable or frozen food
  • Cash, jewellery, and other high-value valuables
  • Illegal goods or substances

Any item too heavy or awkward for safe handling by our crew must be disclosed before the move so we can arrange the right resources. We reserve the right to decline any item that has not been safely packaged or that poses a risk to our team, your property, or our vehicles.

6. Insurance

Big Bull Movers Ltd does not provide insurance cover for your goods while they are in transit or storage. Our vehicles and crew carry standard commercial and public liability cover, which relates to our operations rather than the value of your belongings.

Under the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017, goods carried by a transport operator in New Zealand are generally carried at the owner's risk unless loss or damage is caused intentionally by the carrier. This means we are not automatically liable for loss or damage to your goods during the move.

Because of this, we recommend arranging your own transit insurance before moving day. If you would like help, we can refer you to an insurance provider who offers cover for household and business goods in transit. Big Bull Movers Ltd is not the insurer, does not underwrite any policy, and any cover you take out is a separate agreement between you and that provider.

If you choose not to arrange insurance, you are accepting that your move takes place at owner's risk, as described above.

7. Liability and Limitations

We take reasonable care with your belongings and property at every stage of the move. Even so, some risks cannot be fully removed, particularly when handling large furniture or whiteware through tight doorways, stairwells, or narrow hallways.

Big Bull Movers Ltd is not liable for:

  • Damage to items that were not adequately packaged, or that were packed by the customer
  • Pre-existing damage or wear not caused by our crew
  • Damage to driveways, lawns, underground pipes, or cabling, where our vehicles were directed to a location by the customer or building management
  • Delays caused by traffic, weather, building access rules, or other events outside our reasonable control
  • Indirect losses, such as lost income or missed appointments, arising from a delayed or rescheduled move

Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Damage or Loss Claims

If you believe an item was lost or damaged during your move, please contact us in writing within 24 hours of the job being completed, with a description and photos where possible. Claims raised after this window may be more difficult for us to investigate, since our crew and vehicle records are matched to specific jobs.

We will review the claim, and where your own transit insurance is in place, we will assist by providing relevant job details to your insurer on request.

9. Storage Services

Where storage is booked as part of your move, separate storage terms covering duration, access, and pricing will be provided and agreed with you before items go into storage. General liability and insurance provisions in these Terms apply equally to goods held in storage.

10. Big Bull Commercial Projects

Office relocations, warehouse moves, machinery relocations, and other commercial projects booked through Big Bull Commercial follow these Terms, along with any project-specific scope document, method statement, or health and safety plan agreed for that job. Where a signed project agreement sets different terms for scope, timing, or payment milestones, that agreement takes priority over this page for the matters it covers.

11. Photos and Reviews

We may take photos of completed jobs for training, quality checks, or marketing, with identifying details of your home or business removed or blurred where reasonably practicable. If you would prefer we do not use photos from your job, let your crew leader or our office know before the move.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services or in New Zealand law. The version in effect on the date of your booking confirmation applies to that job.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and any dispute will be subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
